Pink Rain Lily (Zephyranthes rosea)

Botanical name: Zephyranthes grandiflora

Flowers & Foliage: Large, pink, open-faced, lily-like flowers (to four inches) with white throats bloom in summer. Flowers appear singly atop upright stems rising 10- to 12-inches tall above a tuft of outward-spreading, narrow, green, strap-shaped leaves. Flowers flatten out as the day progresses, eventually closing in the evening. Plants in the genus Zephyranthes are sometimes commonly called rain lilies or rain flowers because they often burst into bloom immediately following periods of significant rain.

Plant type: Bulb

Height: 0.75 to 1 foot

Native range: Northern Mexico and Guatemala

Sun: Full sun to part shade

    MY BLINGLESS SHADOW

    A shadow’s an odd sort of thing;
    It might have a nose or a wing,
    A tail like a dog,
    A bump like a log,
    But one thing it has not is bling!
