Istana Art Event 2012 |
We were at the Istana Open House yesterday for the Istana Art Event. As seen in the photo above, the Arts and Heritage Village is a community outreach programme organised by the National Heritage Board for everyone to discover Arts and Heritage through exciting activities.

Entry to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. I only paid $1 for my aunt who is holding a work permit and it was heartwarming to know that every dollar goes towards fulfilling hopes.

Opposite the information Booth, there is an exhibit of miniature horses by Singapore Zoo. Kyla has to see them before participating in the hands-on activities lined up by the Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum.

After satisfying her curious eyes, she went on to check out the booths for the art activities. First activity she did: stencil your own postcard.

Istana Art Event 2012 | A Beautiful Mess by SweetMemoirs.Com |
While she was busy finishing her rosettes stencil card, I kept myself busy taking snapshots of the environment. Please let me digress... I was never an arty person (I always had a hard time drawing in school when I was studying as I wasn't gifted with an artist' hand) but I know how to appreciate some forms of art. I photographed the above photo and titled "A Beautiful Mess". I believe if I am going to post process the photo, it will turn out even more beautiful in my eyes but since I don't have time to process photos these days, I post them resized (and oftentimes watermarked) straight out of the camera.

Back to Kyla, she hopped on to the next booth and designed her own clay fridge magnet. It ain't too obvious that she loves pink eh?! Hehe! Not that I mind though. I have always supported her love for anything girlish.

Did I mention I took environment shots in between? Just to give you an idea that the event was pretty popular to the kids and kids at heart. Good thing we were all blessed with fresh air under the shade of generous green trees otherwise the crowd will get mad with the hot Mr Sun.

Up next: Bookmark making. She got to trace a design in a polyesther (? *to be confirmed) material which was later cooked in the oven to shrink and harden. She had the most fun doing this and decided to make one for her two closest friends.

Here's one of her finish product before it was heated and shrunk in the oven. The small hole on top is intended for the string. It can be used as bookmark or anything the kids fancy.
Looks like a fun day for all! I do love your pictures of Kyla! She is a beautiful young girl!! Hope all of you have a great week!
