Red Bull Flugtag 2012 (Singapore)

Many thanks to the SPRG team who invited me to cover the inaugural of Red Bull Flugtag in Singapore held at Siloso Beach, Sentosa Island earlier today.

As evident from the photos above, the weather cooperated. Mr Sun smiled brightly against the clear blue skies and cotton white clouds. It was a beautiful day!

It was both a privileged (was given an access to the VIP area) and an honour (was proud to be part of a historical event in Singapore) to be tagged as Media/Member of the Press.

Red Bull Flugtag teams spent weeks toiling over their man-made aircrafts in an attempt to put Singapore on the world map for creativity and today, Siloso Beach Sentosa saw some of the island's wackiest human-powered crafts take off a 6 meter ramp into the lagoon.

A total of 38 teams attempted, amidst cheers from a 35,000 strong crowd, to break the Red Bull Flugtag world record distance of 69.79m set in Mainz, Germany earlier this year. This international Red Bull event with a 20 year history made its debut in Singapore and South East Asia for the first time today.

A judging panel made of notable public figures judged each team on creativity, showmanship and of course, flight distance.

The team comprising commercial pilots Pei Jun Wong, Andrew Tan, Joshua Raj and Cordelia Low wins the inaugural Red Bull Flugtag in Singapore.

Their Super Sevens Craft was inspired by a real airplane. The whole team will be flying to Salzburg, Austria for an exclusive tour of Red Bull's Hangar-7, the home of the Flying Bulls and other amazing fleet of aeroplanes and choppers.

The prize will also include an additional skydiving package for 24-year old former cabin crew and model Cordelia Low, the pilot.

A Red Bull Spokesperson said, "The first Red Bull Flugtag in Singapore and South East Asia was a great success. Red Bull events normally involve athletes but Red Bull Flugtag is unique because it celebrates our fans and supporters by letting them be the stars of the day. It was amazing to watch Singaporeans show off their creativity and we are proud to have given wings to the participants and their imaginations on the country's first crazy flight day."

PS.
I took gazillion photos at the event, I will show you more in my next posts. :D
