#FlashbackFriday
One of the biggest milestone in K's spiritual life was receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion. It was included in my Best of 2012 list. Months before the big event, they had a major spiritual preparation in their catechism class. Hubby and I also attended parent's briefing and rehearsal a week before the memorable day.
Apart from the spiritual preparation for both parents and the children, looking for a holy communion dress was challenging especially that K is quite tall for her age. I chanced upon this off-white dress at OG in my quest of finding a suitable dress for the special occasion. Her accessories were bought from a 3 for 10 dollar store and the head dress was provided by the church.
Hubby volunteered as an official photographer. I encouraged him so because K's catechism teacher said they need photographers again (I volunteered as a photographer for the kid's individual photos few weeks prior to the event, the photos were flashed on the projector during the communion) and I also wanted to preserve the memories for K's big day.
Do you remember Father Joseph who came to bless our new house last Easter Sunday? He was the one who gave K the Body of Christ. Parents were asked to put their right hand on their kid's shoulder while receiving the Eucharist. To make sure that everything will turn out smoothly for this major event, parents were required to attend a rehearsal. The organizers did a very good job, they deserve a special mention.
All the kids look their best on their First Holy Communion and all moms and dads are beaming with pride.
After finally receiving their First Holy Communion, kids went up the altar to sing, Thank you, Lord. It was a very touching moment.
K really loves to sing. She's been rehearsing their song at home. The rest of the kids sang their best too.
We are proud parents! Did not bring along baby G with us purposely to give full spiritual and moral support to K. Way to go, sweetie! May you continue to grow as a God-fearing child and may God continue to nurture you with His unconditional love.
FYI:
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is the third of the Sacraments of Initiation. Even though we are required to receive Communion at least once per year (our Easter Duty), and the Church urges us to receive Communion frequently (even daily, if possible), it is called a sacrament of initiation because, like Baptism and Confirmation, it brings us into the fullness of our life in Christ. ~ SOURCE
A very special day, indeed. That was quite a large group of children! K looks very pretty in her dress. Your hubby did a fantastic job with the photography.
ReplyDelete(*cough, cough*) Almost 50 years later, I still have my missal and rosary from my first Holy Communion.

ReplyDeleteKyla and the rest of the children look so sweet and worshipful. It is so touching. Our church participates in communion weekly. You purchased a perfect dress for her and the photos are wonderful. They will be treasured even more as she grows older than they are now. My d-i-l just received hers from her mother and was so touched to see them again. I could see her glow as she recalled the memory.
