I've been meaning to make lemon water for the hubby for the longest time but keeps forgetting about the idea until last night when Ai of Travel.Food.Finds posted a photo of her detox water on Instagram. I dragged the whole family to the supermarket after dinner to buy the things I need following Ai's detox water recipe.
- fresh mint leaves
- cucumber
- orange
- lemon
I put the pitchers in the fridge, couldn't wait to drink it first thing the next morning so I added ice cubes to the other pitcher and drank a glass of it before sleeping (not so sure if it is advisable to drink it at night). You should try making your own detox water out of this simple but life changing recipe. It is so refreshing and so pleasing to the taste buds at the same time. Above all, it helps your body flush out any toxins in your system.
Here's how according to everydayroots.com and nutritionandyou:
Cucumber contains citrulline, an amino acid that has been shown to help the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of amonia.
Lemon juice helps stimulate and regulate the digestive track (which is why it's so helpful with constipation, heart burn and gas), stimulates bile production and thins out bile which allows it to flow more freely.
Mint leaves doesn't only add a refreshing flavour to your drink but also helps you digest more effectively, improving the flow of bile from the liver, to the gallbladder, to the small intestine, where it breaks down dietary fats.
Orange is rich in dietary fiber pectin which helps to protect the mucous membrane of the colon by decreasing its exposure to toxic substances.
I have to admit, I don't drink enough water everyday to keep me hydrated because I dislike the taste of plain water. I only drink a lot of plain water after eating chocolate or anything sweet. Sometimes, I even go to the extent of buying flavoured water. And to think that it is humid in Singapore almost everyday. I've been treating myself no good but with the discovery of detox water recipes, I am in for a life changing treat.
Instead of drinking my usual chocolate drink in the morning at work, I now drink my DIY detox water. In fact, I am hitting two birds in one stone here. I keep myself hydrated and at the same solve my constipation problem that's been bothering me for the longest time. I may no longer need to buy prune juice just to help me release waste with ease.

ReplyDeleteyeah right! let's live healthy, long lives! I love plain water...in fact problem is I love eating and drinking anything hahaha....but I am switching to "disciplined, responsible eating" these days...wish me luck hehe..
