Just recently, hubby and I started listening to Joel Osteen's sermons. On one of the many life changing episodes, he reminded couples to date each other at least once a week. With two young kids, hubby and I tend to forget spending some quality couple time because we always focus on spending quality time with our God given angels. After taking Joel's sermon to heart, we went for a random sushi date after work last Thursday night. We don't have to wait for any special occasion to go on a date.
We always appoint Sakae Sushi at Eastpoint Mall as our next gastronomic destination everytime we pass by there and see the kaiten (conveyor belt) carrying mouthwatering sushi but Eastpoint Mall closed down for a major revamp before we got the chance to satisfy our sushi craving. Since I work in central area, we decided to try out their City Link Mall branch.
Here's what we picked from kaiten and from the menu.
1) Potato Salad
We started with a potato salad. The mashed potato is mixed with carrot cubes and peas, it is very creamy and flavourful. It came with crispy salmon skin, cherry tomatoes, green and red coral, crab stick and topped with citrus sesame sauce. The hubby commented if ever we get the chance to eat at Sakae Sushi in the near future, he will definitely have this again.
2) Mini Tsukadani Wakame Don
This preserved seaweed rice bowl garnished with cucumber cubes and salmon roe is a perfect side dish but if you are on a low carb diet, this isn't recommended as the rice is very filling.
3) Salmon Mayo Inari and Tempura Cheese Maki
Hubby picked these pink plates from the kaiten, not so sure if I named the second photo correctly though. Dip them in a light soy sauce with wasabi paste to gratify your sushi craving.
4) Wagyu Bibinba
Tender beef slices with egg and vegetables ( with a kimchi!) served with hot and subtly charred rice in a stone bowl. The wagyu beef is very juicy and tender, it melts in your mouth. The kimchi added a spicy kick to the dish. It came with miso soup and you have the option of adding chilli paste if you prefer to have it hot and spicy.
5) Green Tea Mochi Icecream
We finished our Japanese gastronomic indulgence with green tea mochi icecream. Mochi icecream is also available in red bean, strawberry and mango flavours. It's a perfect choice to end to a delightful dinner date with a love one!
At the end of the day, it is not what you eat and where you eat that matters but it's the company (who you share the food with) that counts. Hubby and I had our much needed quality couple time. Tune in for our next foodie adventure!
