Chia Seeds: Nature's Complete Superfood

I've been meaning to buy chia seeds eversince I read Jenni's blog entry. The hubby asked me to check Nature's Farm since we don't have Healthy Options here in Singapore but when we went for our weekly family trip to Fairprice supermarket last night, I found the power seeds lying on the dry goods shelf! The great thing is, it came in chia shots. Hubby and I can bring the conveniently packed chia seeds at work.

Here's more information about chia seeds which I found in organicandwholesale.com:

Chia Seeds are packed with OMEGA 3, ANTIOXIDANTS and DIETARY FIBRE
Botanic origin : Salvia hispanica L.
Chia is the richest plant source of Omega-3 fatty acids. It has a good range of B vitamins, more calcium than milk, healthy omega-3 oils, high levels of anti-oxidants, and important trace-minerals such as boron, which prevents arthritis and osteoporosis. The seeds are also a good source of dietary fibre.
Health Benefits:
1. Good source of slow-releasing energy, makes you feel full longer – supports weight loss
2. Cleans your digestive track, helps in elimination of toxins – improves constipation
3. Benefits skin, joints, brain and heart due to high content of Omega 3 fatty acids
4. Improves diabetes and high blood pressure conditions
5. Lowers LDL cholesterol
Ways to consume chia seeds:
  • add directly to plain water, juices, smoothies and other beverages
  • make chia gel (chia seeds + small anount of water) and add in your salad, oats, porridge, yogurt and deserts
  • bake bread and cookies with chia seeds
Happy healthy eating!
