5 Things You Should Remember When You Visit Singapore

So, you've booked your air tickets, got your hotel accommodation package, packed your luggage, and you are all set to fly to Singapore for the first time! Sounds really exciting! So as not to spoil your first Singapore experience, let me give you five little tips when you land your feet on the little red dot.

DON'Ts:

DO NOT SPIT AND LITTER
You've probably heard that Singapore is a FINE city. I dare say yes, it is indeed a fine (pun intended) city, but do not dare spit or litter otherwise you will get FINED.

DO NOT EAT ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATIONS
Eating on buses, trains and even taxis are strictly prohibited. If you are the type of person who loves having breakfast/munchies on the go, be sure to fill your stomach while walking to the train/bus stations and swallow everything before you step foot on the station premises.

DO NOT BRING BUBBLEGUM
Not only chewing bubblegum but importing bubblegum to Singapore is also banned since 2004. This ban is strictly enforced so do not spoil your trip by trying to sneak in some bubblegum in your bag.

DO's

KEEP TO YOUR LEFT WHEN RIDING ESCALATORS
If you don't wish to piss off local residents who are always "in a rush" to reach their destinations, please remember to keep to your left when riding escalators. The right side is meant for people who uses the escalator the way they use a staircase (guilty here, I do it most of the time unless someone is blocking my way).

BRING AN UMBRELLA OR PONCHO
Weather in Singapore is pretty unpredictable. You may leave your hotel with Mr Sun shining brightly on your face but do not be surprised if it's raining cats and dogs upon reaching your destination. Bringing an umbrella or poncho all the time is advisable if you do not wish to get stuck somewhere just because you failed to do so. Even if it will not rain, you will need an umbrella to protect your skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays anyway.

Have fun exploring Singapore!

  2. I've been to SG a long long time ago (year 2006 to be exact). I'm planning to visit there again with my kids this year, I hope our plan push through. I love the food there and the fact that everyone can speak "singlish" la. teehee.

  3. Guilty of eating! Bubblegums, seriously? Are they going to put us in jail? How come, what's the sense? I am not fond them but how about the clueless people? They should read this post. I haven't been to Singapore because our last trip was cancelled. Now I am afraid to go there. LOL!

  6. haha, it would be confusing for us since we keep to the right when riding or walking or when entering anything :)

how i wish we have those strict rules, I do not mind if I can't eat in the bus anymore, as long as there is no spitting, etc, Singapore is indeed a very fine city

  9. Strict rules but discipline is instilled unto their citizens and visitors alike. I wouldn't mind having the same where I'm at. That means cleaner surroundings.

  11. I believe these apply to all countries, except for for the bubblegum thing. Even then, people should learn not to stick it under chairs and stuff, haha.

  12. Sounds like OZ to me, hehehe! I've been there once and I would love to come back one day :-) It's the safest country I've ever been too. Much safer than Australia I must say. It might be because of the imposition of death penalty to law offenders.
