Every certain time of the month, I get really depressed for no reason or rhyme. Depression as defined in Merriam-Webster dictionary, is a serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless and unimportant and often is unable to live in a normal way. Do learn to fight depression as soon as it strikes you because it is not something we should deal with everyday.
Here are 5 ways that I find really effective in fighting depression, based on my personal account:
MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY
They say, the best thing to do when you are sad is to make someone happy. I know, it's not an easy thing to do but it really works for me. You may ask, how can you possibly make someone happy when you yourself feel sad? It's very simple. Happiness is contagious, right? When you go the extra mile to make someone happy when you are sad, the happiness written all over in that person whom you made happy will eventually make you smile and think, life ain't so bad after all.
DO SOMETHING NEW
Go out from that "dark hole" and do something that will give you adrenaline rush. How about riding a go-cart for the first time? You get the idea. I am sure there are many things you have not tried doing before that will excite you and eventually make you think "being alive is awesome, what's there to be lonely?"
TALK TO A FRIEND
I have proven time and again that a friend can change your mood dramatically in an instant. Everytime I feel down, I just chat with my best friend and I would feel a lot better after that. Friends are God-given angels. They are there to make your life bearable no matter how bad you think life is!
SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP
If you have done the above-mentioned ways to fight depression and you still feel that depression is slowly eating your life, go and seek some professional help. Seeing a psychiatrist is NOT something to be ashamed about. It is a sign of maturity, self-love and great sense of responsibility. If you can't help yourself come out from the pit of darkness, a professional psychiatrist can help you deal and overcome depression. Do seek professional help before it gets worst or before it's too late.
And last but not the least...
TALK TO GOD AND PRAY FOR HEALING
If there's someone who is always willing to listen, it's HIM. Pour your heart out and surrender everything that you feel, makes your life miserable. Pray for healing. I always hear my surgeon boss tell his patients: I have done everything I could to help you get better. What I need you to do now is pray, because HE is the only one who can make miracles happen.
Fight depression. Don't let it ruin your precious life!
