Sweet Memoirs, which I humbly represent, was invited by Mount Faber Leisure Group to a food sampling session last Friday at Spuds & Aprons which is located at The Jewel Box in Mount Faber. I was asked to bring a friend but opted to bring the hubby along as Mount Faber holds a thousand memories for us as a married couple.
Chelsea and Ivan of SPRG thoughtfully arranged everything for us including a complimentary Cable Car ride to Mount Faber. If you didn't miss reading our Mount Faber Love Story, you will not be surprised to know how we loved taking a cable car ride to the Singapore's Iconic Hilltop Destination. Pardon the overdose of sweetness from us, it just feels so good to stay in love through the years. I know the love month is over but as cliché as it may sound, everyday is Valentine's day don't you agree?
When I received the invitation via email, i RSVP'd in a heartbeat. Hubby and I will absolutely jump into every opportunity we get to have a quick getaway to Mount Faber. It will always be our favourite hang out away from the hustle and bustle of life in the city. In case you still don't know, we have a soft spot for places close to nature and needless to say, fascinating atmosphere that embodies a romantic setting for self-confessed hopeless romantic lovebirds like us. It is the very reason why we chose to have our wedding dinner celebration at The Jewel Box a couple of years ago.
We arrived at Mount Faber in time for sunset. The harbour views especially when the sun goes down is utterly stunning. Perfect backdrop for a promising dinner. Having tried a plethora of gourmand places in Singapore, the ones close to our hearts offer great ambience, delectable food and good service. If you are looking for a restaurant with such holistic package, Spuds & Aprons does not disappoint.
Whether you choose to dine outdoors or indoors, expect to have a great time satisfying your palate whilst being treated into relaxing green views. I am saying these based on our previous dining experience last October when we celebrated our wedding anniversary. I can still vividly remember how the cool evening breeze kissed our happy faces and our eyes feasted on the breathtaking night views of the Harbour and Sentosa Island as we devoured a relatively light dinner.
Since we only had a light dinner the last time we were here, hubby and I really looked forward to sampling more of Spuds & Aprons' wickedly sinful food. We were graciously welcomed with refreshing mocktails by Fulvia of Mount Faber Leisure Group (the eloquent lady beside me) and Chelsea of SPRG (the self-appointed love fairy seated next to Fulvia). We let them chose what foods to sample from the menu and requested that we skip the salad and the main entrée that we ate on our last visit.
Fulvia, who surprisingly confessed that she loves Filipino food, highly recommended us the Wicked Fries and the Chilli Crab in a Tux as appetizers. The famous Wicked Fries brought the cheese lover in me to heaven! The steakhouse spuds with 6 types of cheese (mozarella, cheddar, provolone, Gruyère, emmental and parmesan) and brown sauce is deliciously sinful. According to Fulvia, it took the chef many experiments to perfect this wicked fries. The Chilli Crab in a Tux on the other hand got the hubby satisfy his chilli crab craving and it made me silently wish my girl is with us because she loves chilli crab so much.
We skipped the Crispy White Bait Salad as we already tasted it last time and jumped into the main entrée. Do you remember me saying I was dying to have the Crispy Pork Belly from the Eat Like a Horse selection when we had our anniversary dinner? I finally get the chance to taste it and oh am geeeee it had me savour it like it was my first time eating such juicy pork belly meat perfectly complimented by its super crispy skin. The chef apparently has some secret in making the fresh pork maintain its juiciness. The pork belly was soaked in a hot tub and slow-cooked until fork tender. It was lovingly and creatively served with homemade pineapple pickle, greens and roasted potatoes in a chopping board.
This Grilled Char Siew Lamb Rack was recommended by Fulvia to the hubby. The carnivorous in him have no heart to say no as expected. Confessionally, he always go for steaks and other grilled meats whenever we eat out. The Murray bridge lamb rack marinated in char siew seasoning and flame grilled to precision is beautifully served with sesame hoisin sauce, greens and mashed potato in a chopping board. I find the grilled lamb rack a bit dry but I had to compliment the crushed nut toppings that made it very palatable.
After savouring our main entrées, we were served with Jar of Happiness and Chempedak Bread & Butter Pudding for dessert. I devoured on Chempedak whilst the hubby scooped the Jar of Happiness like a wide-eyed kid eating an icecream for the first time. The Jar of Happiness is made of shortbread biscuits with almond flakes, mixed berries, Ben & Jerry's vanilla icecream and topped with warm berry compote. It is without a doubt, happiness in a jar!
The Chempedak Bread & Butter Pudding on the other hand is basically a croissant with creamy custard and chempedak served with Ben & Jerry's vanilla icecream. In case you are wondering, chempedak is actually a tropical fruit native to Malaysia and Thailand. It is similar to jackfruit in appearance and the way the fruit is used. Its pulpy flesh is apparently sought after for its fragrance and taste. This dessert belongs to the Die Die Must Try category from the Spuds & Aprons menu and I couldn't beg to disagree.
What a perfect way to end our delightful gastronomic indulgence! Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Mount Faber Leisure Group proudly, graciously and wittingly represented by Fulvia for the very kind invitation and to Chelsea and Ivan of SPRG for making sure everything will go smoothly as planned and that we go home with happy tummies and grateful hearts.
Spuds & Aprons now offers a more relaxed environment. No more formal dress code and elegant restaurant setting which to most people are synonymous to not-so-pocket-and-family friendly. If you have kids like us, you can now bring them to enjoy the kid's meal and have a great time at the Koi Pond after a fun cable car ride. The Jewel Box at Mount Faber which houses Spuds & Aprons doesn't only offer yummy food but also instant nature retreat and great experience. Do visit anytime!
Trivia: There's a live local band serenading patrons at night and a waiter would wear a special apron that signals you get to enjoy some of their food and drinks on huge discount. Do look out for it!
