Washing Tips
Now that you know how often your items
should be washed, you may find it useful to have some washing tips that will
help you to clean items to the best of your ability. So, if you want to up your game when it comes
to your laundry, keep the following in mind:
Sheets
· Use warm water as opposed to
hot water, as the latter can cause your sheets to shrink.
· If you have coloured pillow
cases, turn these inside out prior to washing.
Duvet
Covers
· To make sure you have removed
all the soap residue from the wash (which can be an irritant), it’s a good idea
to run the rinse cycle twice.
· If your duvet covers are made
of 100% cotton, like the ones from Threel.co.uk,
make sure not to use hot water. Avoid
tumble drying.
Mattress
Covers
· If tumble drying, make sure to
do so on a low heat. High heats can
cause some of the materials to melt and fuse together.
Duvets
· If you have down or feather
duvets, you should wash them on a low heat setting, or use the air cycle if
your washing machine has one.
· To make sure that they’re
completely dry, and to make them smell nice and fresh, you should let them dry
outside, rather than in a tumble dryer.
Pillows
· To keep the washing machine
balanced, it’s a good idea to wash
two pillows at a time. If tumble drying, make sure to
do so on a low heat as high heat makes some materials (like polyester) clump
up. You can also place two tennis balls
in socks, and then place these in the dryer.
This will help to fluff your pillows up, and help them keep their shape.
Although most people, if they are honest,
do not wash their bed sheets weekly, it’s a good idea to get in the habit of
doing so. Although it is down to personal preference, it doesn’t take long for
your sheets to become covered in dead skin cells, drool, sweat, oil, sexual
fluids and germs, and it also doesn’t take long for bed mites to make a home in
dirty bedding – so keep
this in mind the next time you decide to wait a month or longer between
washing your sheets.
I wash everything every two weeks but the pillows. I wash our pillows every week. Thanks for the tips.
ReplyDeletegood way to share the tips of maintaining a nice and clean beddings
ReplyDeleteA very handy and useful guide! Like the tip on using tennis balls inside socks to fluff the pillows while they dry. I still put my pillows out in the sun especially during summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great tips. I wash our linens every week. I was advised by my doctor to wash them twice a week to prevent asthma attacks but I can't do that. It's like washing linens eight times in a month. It is so time consuming, not to mention the detergent and electricity that will be used.
ReplyDeleteI have been enlightened. :) Thank you very much for sharing. After reading your post on the frequency of washing our sheets, I've come to realize that some I wash too often and was quite unnecessary while the others I was washing less when I should wash often like the duvet. I wash that every quarter when ideally it should be bi-annual. It's really good to know these tips.
ReplyDeleteSis, you've got here a very good tips. We wash our sheets once a week and matress covers once a month. Ayos, tama kami but, yung comforters once in a blue moon lang ata since seldom lang namin gamitin.
ReplyDeleteThese are very helpful tips Sis. You remind me to wash our sheets too. it has been a week or so since the last time I changed the sheets.
ReplyDeleteThis is very helpful. As much as possible, me and my mom always try to wash everything every week. Except with my blanket though. I don't like it to be washed every week since I can't sleep when it's newly-washed, I don't know why. So I make it to a point to wash it every 2 weeks instead. :)
ReplyDeleteWe send our bed sheets and pillow cases to the laundry shop every week, but we only send our pillows to the same shop for washing whenever we feel it's time, like when it's dirty or when it doesn't smell so good anymore. Now that I know how often this should be done, I'll do as you recommend. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteas much as i am a clean freak when it comes to everything,
ReplyDeleteI don't really follow the-every-week-must-wash-thing!!
but good thing that I read this post and will serve as a reminder, hehe,
not to be tamad and be more sipag when it comes to laundry day. ^0^
